GMud Instructions and Downloads
Normally I wouldn't do this, but due to popular demand, I have added this instruction page, as some fans have not been able to get this to work. Special thanks to Xan...for writing this wonderful installation Tutorial. I sent many thanks to Xan for his kindness in doing this!
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT the developer of this program. I DO NOT have the source code nor I DO NOT know where to get it as the program is abondware. Use Gmud at your own risk. I am not responsible for any accidents or problems resulting in the use of this program.

(RETURN USERS - Zipfile at end of this page!)
SETUP I - Creating the GMud ShortcutNow you have a preset Shortcut for GMud.
- SRC the file GMUD32.EXE and select Create Shortcut
- SLC the shortcut, press F2 and rename it to "GMud"
- SRC the shortcut, select Properties
- SLC the Shortcut tab
- In the Run field, select Maximized
- SLC the Apply box
- SLC the OK box
SETUP II - Putting the GMud Shortcut where it is neededNow you have your GMud icon on both your Desktop and Start Menu.

- Paste (Ctrl+V) the GMud Shortcut into the Windows\Start Menu folder
SETUP III - GMud Preparation
Note: GMud works best when you keep it maximized, minimizing is okay, but I've found that keeping it normal window size causes problems with multiple connections, as well as causes reverse connection problems with browsers and other PPP, TCP/IP and SLIP connections. For best results, keep GMud maximized at all times. Other windows can be used over it, just ignore any color abnormalities of GMud.
Note2: This entire section can be over-ridden by copying the file C:\gmud\GMUD32.INI into the C:\Windows\ directory. This _should_ be done before you run GMud for the very first time. You can still Copy this file there at any time, but it's best to do it before running GMud for the first time
Your GMud is now configured for optimal performance under Windows 95/98/ME. To make sure these changes stick, close the GMud program now. There will be created in your windows directory a file named GMUD32.INI - This file holds information required by GMud. If anytime GMud starts acting funny, delete the Windows\GMUD32.INI file and reconfigure the above steps, OR, just place the GMUD32.INI file into your windows directory.
- DLC on either the Desktop or Start Menu GMud Shortcut, and wait for the spash screen to remove itself (two to three seconds) NOTE: DO NOT press ANY other key or click your mouse until AFTER this splash screen (nag) goes away, otherwise it starts a chain reaction timer to either lag, or disconnect at a random time.
- Where you see the F1 (on the left side), Left-Click and hold the mouse button and move it to the upper right corner, but do not cover the three windows buttons (_ [] X) and release. This is called the Macro Window
- Where it says "Click here to Drag" Left-Click and hold the mouse button and move to upper right corner, beside the Macro Window. This is called the Connected World Window
- SLC both the Connected World Window and Macro Window's Upper-Right Corner X (this closes these windows) To turn either of these windows back on, use the View option on the Toolbar. Note: Always keep Status Bar and Toolbar on at all times until you master GMud (about a day or two IF you have read the Help)
- On the Toolbar, you'll see a button with a large "F" on it. To the very left of this button, is the Screen Wrap button (avail via Options->Screen Wrap). It is best to set these to:
SLC the OK button in the Output window wrapping popup
Virtual Screen Width: Wrap to screen Wrap to nearest: Word Indent wrapped lines by 2 spaces: (be sure this box is checked)
- Now SLC the "F" or Change Font button (avail via Options->Font). For best results, choose:
(this font size is key for GMud to avoid connection probs, similar to the above 'nag' screen. If your screen resolution is greater than 640x480, use Font Size 10 instead, but again, don't complain if your connection becomes unstable...)
Font: (TT)Courier New Font style: Bold Size: 8 Script: Western
SLC the OK button of the Font popup
- On the right side of the Font button is the Colors/Ansi button. (avail via Options->Color) SLC this button, and in the Text Color field, select the lightest shade of grey in the colorbar list. In the Background color, select Black. Be sure the box for "Enable Ansi Color" is checked. (Again, if you use other colors, program may become unstable, similar to above 'nag' screen.)
SLC the OK button of the Change Text Color popup
- Now SLC the Options->Local Echo (to _uncheck_ it)

IMPORTANT!!! It has been found that putting ANYTHING into the "Text to output upon connect" box can possibly lead to errors, or even accidentally sending your password(s) to where everyone can see them. It is BEST to place your login name and password into the "Description" box, and type your passwords by hand, and place your username into a macro to save typing time, as each world is capable of it's own set of macros, as well as triggers and aliases, but it's NOT a good idea to use aliases, as ya never know when yer gonna type it out and screw it up! It is also noted that you should NOT use the same password at ANY two talkers, NOR is it a good idea to use the same passwords for more than a week or two. This security is up to you, if you don't heed the above advice, don't complain if some brat or jerk hacks your accounts. -- Xan...
Now since you have GMud installed and fully functional! (Little Star Trek: The Next Generation humor!) You can now find yourself a talker or two to visit. However, I do not support any or the actions that goes on at these talkers. So enter at your own risk. I also do not take responsiblity for the use of or any mishaps that occur to your computer while using GMud!
For you hardcore users that want just the zip, grab it here:
